I grew up in a small Swedish community here in Michigan, where my neighbors were more like family than strangers. I've been married for ten years and I have two amazing daughters. It is through my birthing experiences that my passion to empower women as they navigate their own journey through pregnancy and birth was set in motion. I am a home birth mama and midwifery advocate.
I started studying Lamaze in May of 2020. Later that year, I began attending births. I became certified in neonatal resuscitation in March of 2021 and celebrated my Lamaze certification on Christmas that same year. I have been trained as a doula by a homebirth midwife and am currently working towards certification with DONA International. I attended a Spinning Babies workshop in September of 2022. My training and education provide a rich understanding of pregnancy, birth, and breastfeeding. I have now had the privilege of attending over 100 births, primarily in the home birth setting.
It is an incredible honor to hold space for and support laboring mamas and their partners. I chose Lamaze because their philosophies align with my own beliefs and am proud to represent this nonprofit organization. Lamaze is a trusted global leader whose mission is to advance safe and healthy pregnancy, birth, and early parenting through evidence-based education and advocacy.
My philosophy of birth is that it is a normal and natural process. Women have an innate ability to birth their babies. Our bodies and our babies are perfectly designed for the journey. If you’ve never given birth before, let me be the first to assure you that you hold an incredible power within to grow, birth, and nourish your baby after they’re born. I believe in your power and the strength of women. Pregnancy and birth are incredibly transforming experiences in the life of a woman and her family. The stories and people that you surround yourself with during the months of pregnancy and at your birth have the potential to either enhance or diminish your belief in yourself. Every woman and birth deserves to be respected and held in a caring environment.
